It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain yellow field (village rank).

The arms are Vert over a base wavy Argent and Azure, three millwheels Or ordered 1:2. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "VILA COVA DO COVELO".

Vila Cova do Covelo was one of the communes of Penalva do Castelo municipality covering 8,87 km². It had 211 inhabitants in 2011.
