The municipality of Villaferrueña (127 inhabitants in 2010; 2,053 ha)
is located in the northeast of the Zamora Province, 80 km from Zamora.
Villaferrueña is named for iron (in Latin, ferrum), recalling that
underground waters emerging in the village are red due to their high
concentration in iron.

The flag and arms of Villaferrueña are prescribed by a Decree adopted
on 9 July 1997 by the Zamora Provincial Government, signed on 7 August
1997 by the President of the Government, and published on 20 August
1997 in the official gazette of Castile and León, No. 158 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:
Flag: Rectangular flag, with proportions 2:3, made of a red panel with an horizontal heraldic pairle, the triangle at hoist blue and the horizontal stripes red.
Coat of arms: Per pale, 1. Argent a St. John clad gules a lamb argent in sinister a cross gules in dexter, 2. Azure a hammer argent a sledgehammer of the same per saltire, grafted in base waves argent and azure. The shield surmounted with a Royal crown closed.
