The American Yacht Club (AYC), located in Newburyport on the Merrimack River, is America's
oldest continually operating private yacht club. On 9 May 1885, the 25 members of the newly founded AYC appointed Elisha P. Pride as the club's Commodore; the club was incorporated on 20 May 1890. Club membership has increased since then to over 300 members, with a fleet of over 150 boats.
The burgee of AYC, as shown graphically on the club's website, is made of two red triangles placed along the hoist, a white triangle in the middle and a blue triangle at fly.
