Description of the flag

Ryazan’ Region now has the flag — three horizonthal stripes: white, gold, red and a figure of ancient prince of Ryazan’ (“knyaz”) in the centre, according to Yuri Rocich. Anyway, it’s not certain that Yury knows exactly how the flag look like (proportion of the figure of the prince, is there a shield behind the figure, etc.). Unfortunately, all the Ryazan’ websites don’t speak about the flag nor show any image, it’s hard to find something to confirm this information.

Standard of the Governor

Jörg Majewski, 3 Oct 2005

The simplest variants of standarts are imposing of the arms on a national flag. Except for Republics on this way send authorities of the Ryazan Oblast.
Sergey Filatov, 10 Oct 2005

Most of these flags are squarish (about 11:12), rigid and fringed variants of the region (Governors) or Republic (Presidents) flags with the regional emblem over all.
António Martins, 02 Oct 2005

Coat of arms

Regional Duma (parliament) adopted the coat of arms on 6, august, 1997. It was the shield only. On 24, june, 1998 the Duma readopted the coat of arms with supporters, crown, mantle etc. Author of the drawing is Michail Shelkovenko. Main element of the coat of arms — ancient prince ("knyaz") with sword and sheath (firstly displayed as coat of arms of Ryazan’ land in XVII c.). Ryazan’ was a sovereign state ("knyazhestvo") before union with Moscow. Supporters — two horses. Horse was the symbol of Ryazan’ on State Seal of czar Ivan the Terrible (XVI cent.). The coat of arms of the city, since 1779 to today, is the same (only the shield, without supporters, mantle, etc.).
