Fornelos Commune was one of the communes of Ponte de Lima Municipality (q.v.); it had 1535 inhabitants in 2001 and covers 10,50 km². "Fornelos" is archaic Portuguese for "small ovens" or "small kilns" and these arms are thus not canting; in Portugal there are five communes thus named.
