The arms are Argent a cross maltese Gules and in chief two apple tree twigs Vert fruited Gules and garnished Or and a base wavy Vert and Argent of four per fess. Mural crown argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "MACEDA".
Meaning:
"Maceda" appears to be related to "maçã" (="apple"), making the arms partly canting.

Maceda Commune is one of the five communes of Ovar Municipality (q.v.); it had 3687 inhabitants in 2001 and covers 15,34;km².
