It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain red field.

The arms are Or a cogwheel Gules, in chief a millstone Azure between two rail profiles Gules, in base wavy Azure two barrulets wavy Argent. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading "AFONSOEIRO" in black upper case letters.
Meaning:
The profiles stand for the former railroad Ramal do Montijo, which had its terminus in the communal territory (Montijo station).

Afonsoeiro Commune was one of the pre-2013 communes of Montijo Municipality (q.v.); it had 3536 inhabitants in 2001 and covered 4,36 km².
