It is a fairily typical portuguese municipal flag,
with the coat of arms centered on a blue and
yellow gyronny (city rank) background. Flag
and arms adopted and published in the official journal
Diário da República :
III Série in 1997.10.31, upon upgrade to city status in
1981.08.16, with trivial changes in the previous, town rank,
flag and arms.

The arms are Sable a filegree heart Or enameled Azure surrounded by a
garland of eight wheat ears Or pointing clockwise. Mural crown argent with
five visible towers (city rank) and white scroll
reading in black upper case letters "Cidade de Gondomar".

The previous, town rank, flag and arms, were adopted and published in the
official journal Diário do Governo
: I Série in 1938.04.29. These included the
usual town attributes, four visible crown towers,
"vila" instead of "cidade" on the scroll, and
quartered flag, yellow and blue.
