It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain blue field.

The arms are Or a bunch of grapes Purpure leaved Vert, in base a demi cogwheel Azure issuant. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "LAPA - CARTAXO".
Meaning:
"_Lapa_" means "cave", and indeed that’s the origin of this place's name, but that does not show on the arms.

Lapa Commune was one of the six communes of Cartaxo Municipality (q.v.); it had 1205 inhabitants in 2001 and covered 6,28 km².
