Presentation of Oropos

The municipality of Oropos (33,769 inhabitants in 2001; 31,750 ha) was formed in the 2011 local government reform by the merger of the former municipalities of Afidnes (Αφιδνών, 2,543 inh.); Avionas (Αυλώνας, 5,085 inh.), Kalamaos (Καλάμου, 5,468 inh.), Kapandriti (Καπανδριτίου, 2,937 inh.), Malakasa (Μαλακάσας, 1,788 inh.), Markopoulo Oropou (Μαρκοπούλου Ωρωπού, 3,894 inh.), Oropioi (Ωρωπίων, 8,472 inh.), Polydendri (Πολυδενδρίου, 1,438 inh.), and Sykamino (Συκαμίνου, 1,522 inh.)

The former flag of Avionas (Kokkonis website) was light pink with its emblem, consisting of a scenery showing a landscape including a sculpture (a head in profile), a jar and a deer, and with the name of the municipality underlined beneath.
