Description

Lloyd's Book of House Flags and Funnels (1912) [llo12] shows the house flag of "Compañía Trasatlántica" (#176, p. 45), a company based in Barcelona, as blue with the white letters "N.Y."

"Sociedad Anónima Navegación e Industria" is the successor of a company set up by Reynals, Vilardaga and Granell, who were granted on 9 March1830 by King Fernando VII a privilege to build in England a steamship named "Balear," for the service of a scheduled line between Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca; the company eventually operated the two English steamships "Delfín" and "Mercurio."

"Navegación e Industria" was officially set up on 23 March 1841. In 1910, the company was granted the service of the scheduled lines between Cádiz and the Canary Islands. The same year, it was purchased by the Tyne Tees Steamship Co.
