Presentation of Macotera

The municipality of Macotera (1,345 inhabitants in 2010; 3,293 ha) is located in the north-east of Salamanca Province, 50 km from Salamanca.

Isabel Jiménez García (b. 1949 in Macotera) was elected Mayor of Macotera in 2007 and has been serving as the President of the Government of Salamanca Province since 2003.
Macotera is the birth place of Cardinal Miguel García Cuesta (1803-1873), appointed Bishop of Jaca (1848), Archbishop of Santiago de Compostela (1851) and Cardinal-Priest of St. Prisca (1861). Elective Representative at the Constitutional Cortes in 1869 and Senator of Biscay in 1872, he attempted to prevent the Spanish Government to interfere with the management of the Church and was forbidden to attend the Vatican I Council (1869-1870).
