Presentation of Palacios del Sil

The municipality of Palacios del Sil (1,225 inhabitants in 2009; 18,140 ha) is located in the northwest of León Province, 100 km of León. The municipality is made of the villages of Corbón del Sil, Cuevas del Sil, Matalavilla, Mataotero, Palacios del Sil (capital), Salientes, Susañe del Sil, Tejedo del Sil, Valdeprado, Valseco and Villarino del Sil.
While the villages are located in the upper valley of river Sil, the municipal territory encompasses the highest point of El Bierzo region, Peña Catoute (2,117 m asl).

Symbols of Palacios del Sil

The flag and arms of Palacios del Sil are prescribed by a Decree adopted on 29 December 2000 by the Municipal Council, signed on 8 May 2001 by the Mayor, and published on 29 May 2001 in the official gazette of Castile and León, No. 103, p. 8,311 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:

Flag: Rectangular flag with proportions 2:3, made of a red panel with a white triangle whose vertices are the upper and lower hoist and the mid fly, itself charged with another, blue triangle whose vertices are at 1/6 from the upper and lower hoist and at 1/3 from the fly on the central line.
Coat of arms: Argent two palaces [palacios] gules per fess, in base two waves argent and azure. The shield surmounted with a Royal crown closed.
