The municipality of Velayos (245 inhabitants in 2009; 2,045 ha; unofficial website) is located in the northeast of Ávila Province, 20 km of Ávila.

The flag (image) and arms (image) of Velayos, designed by Vicente Tocino Letrado, are prescribed by a Decree adopted on 24 March 2001 by the Municipal Council, signed on 4 July 2001 by the Mayor, and published on 19 July 2001 in the official gazette of Castile and León, No. 140, p. 11,053 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:
Flag: Rectangular flag with proportions 2:3, made of two equal vertical stripes, at hoist red with a yellow tower, at fly checky 3 x 5 white and red.
Coat of arms: Per pale, 1. Gules a tower or masoned sable port and windows azure, 2. Argent a weaving loom gules. The shield surmounted with a Royal crown closed.
The dexter part of the coat of arms, in the Castilian colors, shows a
tower recalling the strategic location of Velayos and the numerous
watching towers built in the neighborhood, such as the Sanchidrián tower. The sinister part, in the Castilian-Leonese colors, recalls that Velayos housed in the 16th century 75 weavers, representing 40% of the villagers. Of these weavers, also working as farmers and mostly, as merchants, none existed yet in the 19th century.
The original document shows the flag with proportions 3:5 instead of
the prescribed 2:3, most probably to have square pieces in the right
part of the flag.
