Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided into silver (=white) and golden (=yellow) by a red fess. Above in the silver filed is a red extremely wavy fess (the German name is: Wellenbalken). Below in the golden field is a red statant swan.
Meaning:
According to source the wavy fess is taken from the arms of the local kin of von Wettringen; the fess in the middle is symbolizing Herford abbey, which had major real estates since the early middle ages. The swan is taken from the arms of the lords and counts of Steinfurt, who administrated Herfordian properties since the 15th century.
