Compañía Argentina de Navegación Dodero. This appears to be a post WW2 successor to Compañia Argentina de Navegación Mihanovich Ltda. with a connection with their managers Agencia Maritima Dodero S.A. According to one source they were nationalized 29.7.1957 with a change of name to Flota Argentina de Navegacion de Ultramar but their name still shows briefly in Lloyds in the early 1960s for ownership of 1 vessel and this may explain the flag shown here as earlier sources of Talbot-Booth 1949 and Stewart 1953 show a diagonal quartered flag of white and blue with overall a white horizontal oval, outlined blue, bearing a red "D" [see image].

Grupo Ultramar

Ultramar house flag
by António Martins, 01 May 2004

Ultramar Group is a port agency serving shippers in ports in Peru, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay. The site shows the company's house flag, per saltire white and blue with a blue ring surrounding a white disk on the center, and the letter U on it in blue.
Joe Mcmillan, 02 Jul 2001

It seems that the Ultramar HQ is in Argentina.
António Martins, 01 May 2004

The World Salvage Directory (http://www.marine-salvage.com/wsd_int.htm) of the International Salvage Union (ISU) lists the member companies and show the house flag of some of them (on each individual company page, linked from the directory). The flag of Remocaldores Ultragas Ltda. is divided per saltire blue-white-blue-white, with the letter "U" in blue enclosed in a blue circle, in the middle.
Ivan Sache, 24 Jun 2001

The page http://www.marine-salvage.com/companypages/ultragas.htm shows this flag crossed with the ICS signal flag Zulu.

At http://www.ultramargroup.com/, the ring is black and the "U" is blue: Apart from the color difference, the ratio is slightly more oblong (5:8 instead of ~2:3), and the ring and "U" are thinner.

Río de La Plata S.A. de Navegación de Ultramar

Rio de la Plata house flag
by Jan Mertens, 3 Sep 2008

See this recent Maritime Timetable Images page concerning FANU (‘Flota Argentina de Navegación de Ultramar’): http://www.timetableimages.com/maritime/images/dodero.htm#dodero48. where we find other, related house flags (white saltire on blue or blue-white division per saltire) already described by Neale. Second picture, sailing schedule 1949/1950 (Buenos Aires-London route).

The Río de la Plata Line flew a blue house flag bearing a white saltire and a blue-rimmed disk in the centre, white, with stylized red initials ‘RP’ (the ‘R’ placed higher than the ‘P’).

Source: http://www.timetableimages.com/maritime/images/dodero49.htm

[Alberto] Dodero founded Compañia Argentina de Navegacion Mihanovich Ltd. Since then, he was the most important private ship owner of Argentina. In 1942, the company changed its name to Compañia Argentina de Navegacion Dodero S.A. and the holding company Río de la Plata (Dodero Group). In 1949 Dodero Group was nationalized by the government of [General] Peron.

And here, saying that the holding company – named Río de la Plata, Compañía de Inversiones Marítimas S.A. was founded in april 1943:

As illustrated by the above shipping schedule, not only did Río de la Plata fly a distinct house flag but operated at least one passenger ship, ‘Presidente Perón’, as well. The flag must have flown between 1943 and 1949/50.

Sociedad Anónima Importadora y Exportadora de la Patagonia

SYEP house flag
by António Martins, 01 Jul 2008

Sociedad Anónima Importadora y Exportadora de la Patagonia originated in 1908 as Sociedad Anónima de Importación y Exportación de la Patagonia, Menéndez, Braun, Blanchard y Cía. Ltda. as a joint venture formed by the Chilean companies Sociedad Ganadera y Comercial Menéndez-Behety and Braun & Blanchard, presumably based then in Chile but moving to Buenos Aires in 1918 and they are shown in Lloyds up until the mid 1970s.

Their flag was yellow with a red saltire between the black letters "SYEP"

Sud Atlántica Sociedad Anónima de Navegación

CSAV house flag
by Ivan Sache, 24 Mar 2001

From the plate [d9e33c] shown in Znamierowski [zna00]:

#376. Sud Atlantica Soc. Anon. de Nav. - Buenos Aires
Shipping lines: Buenos Aires - La Plata, Brazil Cargo and passenger steamboats: 8 Tonnage: ca 10,000 Regt. brutto.
Red flag with a white lozenge nearly touching the edges of the flag. A blue anchor in the middle with S and A, in blue, on either side of the anchor, respectively.
Ivan Sache, 24 Mar 2001

Sud Atlantica Sociedad Anonima de Navegaçion [sic!]: Operated pre WW1 with Lloyds 1904 [LLo04] indicating that it was operated by Miguel Mihanovich, it appears to have ceased operations around 1930. Talbot-Booth in his 1936 books [tbb36] shows the flag under Compañia Sud-Americana de Vapores in error.
Neale Rosanoski, 08 May 2003

In the 1930 Larousse Commercial house flag pages [hok30] this flag — red with white diamond, its four points touching the flag’s edges; in the diamond, a blue upright anchor (without rope) accompanied by blue letters S and A, left and right of the stock respectively — is misidentified as that of Cia SudAmericana de Vapores, Valparaiso.
